Free at the point of use
The honesty box.
There is no paywall in front of this book and there never will be. You can read it first and decide afterwards. That is the whole arrangement.
The honesty box
Free at the point of use. Pay what you think it is worth.
Take the book now. Read it. Pay nothing if that is where you are — plenty of us have been there. If it was worth something to you, or you want to pass it on to someone else, the box is here whenever you come back.
You can pay more than the asking price, less than it, or nothing at all. The book is the same book either way.
Where the money goes
- Paying the writer for the work.
- Self-marketing and self-publishing costs, so no tollbooth owns the exit.
- The next book.
- Building the wider Solarpunk Society community and its projects.
Take the book
Read it now. Settle up later, or not at all.
Nothing below asks you for money or an email address first. If you come back later to put something in the box, that is a kindness, not a debt.
- ePub For Kobo, Apple Books, Kindle (via send-to-kindle), and most e-readers. Opens 1 November
- PDF The full print interior, exactly as it appears on paper. Opens 1 November
The book goes public on 1 November. Join the email list or Telegram community for the first distribution window on 1 October — no charge, no tiers, no waiting-list theatre. The delivery route is confirmed before any book is sent. Get early access →
Or pay for someone else
The best thing you can buy here is someone else's copy.
The ebook costs us nothing to give away, but a printed one does. Covering a copy puts a real book into the hands of someone at a stall, a prison library, a community centre or a school that could not otherwise have one.
Why it works this way
A price is a signal, not a gate.
Putting a number on the work says it has value and that someone made it. Letting you pay less — or nothing — says the book is more use in your hands than sitting behind a tollbooth. Neither of those cancels the other out, so we do both.
